Bowling Green Rubber & Gasket will provide in-house fabric-based solutions for belting, boots, gaskets, and curtains, in addition to many other sewn-to-order products. The use of heavy weight thread in our sewing process will make our stitched products long-lasting and durable. The application of industrial sewing is as creative and varied as are the projects.

Stitching extra heavy-weight materials for such operations and products as safety and logging belts, cargo slings, fabric structures, construction barriers, industrial bags, and boot stitching.

Our number one choice for thread is Kevlar. Kevlar is about 2½ times stronger than nylon and polyester, has very little stretch, does not melt, and decomposes at 800ºF. This makes it a great choice for high stress applications including sewing seams on heavy duty clothing, conveyor belts, harnesses and bags, reinforcing plastics, and other fibers, and even providing high-temperature controls for model airplanes and rockets. To put Kevlar thread in perspective, here is a side-by-side comparison of Kevlar and three other middleweight (Size 92) threads:

Type of thread                     Kevlar                Nylon               Polyester              Nomex

Tensile strength                  30 Lbs.               15 Lbs.             15 Lbs.                  9 Lbs.

Stretch before breaking     2%                       26%                  26%                      N/A

Heat decomposition           800ºF                485ºF               485ºF                  700ºF
